Maui Divers Jewelry was founded over 40 years ago in 1958 as a dive shop in Lahaina, Maui. A fishing expedition in the deep waters off the Molokai Channel in 1959 led Maui Divers to the discovery of one of the ocean's finest treasures, Hawaiian Black Coral. Utilizing careful and controlled harvesting to ensure the future of the resource, the company began designing, manufacturing and selling Hawaiian Black Coral jewelry.

Peridot: Gift of the Volcano Goddess

Tempestuous Pele is the goddess of the volcano, with all its power and capriciousness. In ancient Hawaiian chants, she was described as “She-who-shapes-the-sacred-land” and her temper was known to be both as abundant and dangerous as the lava. Traditional tales abound of her love affairs and liaisons, of the rivalry with her sisters and brothers, of the storms and waves with which one after another god tried—and failed—to subdue her.

In Hawaii, it’s impossible to avoid the evidence of her power and generosity. Since 1983, her volcano has destroyed more than 100 structures on the Big Island—while adding more than 70 acres to the island’s southern coastline.

Glistening green peridot is a volcanic gem formed in the deep fires of the earth; on Hawaii, it is treasured as the tears of Pele. An entire beach in Oahu is formed of peridot sand, worn to powder by the ceaseless ocean. Pele’s gift of peridot is thought by many to have great power to heal, and to bring wealth and growth. Its beautiful green-gold color perfectly complements an Island tan, and sparkles just as brilliantly at night as in the sun.

Golden Spirit of Hawaii

Gleaming gold has a long history as a favorite adornment in Hawaii. The ideal complement to a deep Island tan, gold jewelry was favored over 100 years ago by the royal family of Hawaii. It was Queen Lili’uokalani herself who began the tradition of Hawaiian Heirloom Jewelry, enameled with names and phrases dear to the heart.

Over the years, the glitter of gold has become synonymous with Hawaii’s enviable golden sunshine. Captured in gold, the abundant gifts of nature that play such a great part in Island lives and values, become cherished treasures to carry with you always.

The renowned spirit of our Islands is embodied in our signature Aloha Heart, with a hidden message of love found within its shadow….while slippers stand for the relaxed, friendly soul of Hawaii.

Plumeria, pineapples and other florals which thrive on our rich, green fertile lands, are offered as everlasting keepsakes.

Hawaii’s glorious Sea Life—the graceful dolphin, powerful whale, wise honu (turtle), dramatic tropical fish—are all rendered in precious gold as lasting symbols of our living seas.

It is through our collection of carefully and lovingly crafted golden designs that Maui Divers Jewelry is able to enjoy sharing these gifts of Paradise with all who visit us. We hope you will cherish this golden abundance, and share it with those you love.

Taking Care of your Pearls

Pearls that come into contact with skin can cause damage to the pearl over time. Skin is naturally acidic which can eat away the nacre (protective coating) on the pearl. It is recommended that you clean your pearls with a soft cloth periodically to keep them free from dirt, oils and sweat. If your pearls need a heavy cleaning you can use warm water with a small amount of dishwashing detergent. The pearls should soak for no longer than 30 minutes. Then let pearls air dry.
